ORIGIN OF FALE POLYNESIA - OC

Fale Polynesia co-founder Kanani Asuega is sprung from a long line of culture-keepers. Lokelani's Polynesian Revue is a Polynesian dance ensemble that her grandmother, Florence Lokelani Ka'ahanui Broderick (also known as "Loke"), founded and handed on to her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Roy Asuega. With performances in Japan, Western Samoa, and the United States, Lokelani's has been one of Orange County, California's leading dance studios for 35 years. Uncle Roy is renowned for his flawless voice, and Aunty Kathy is an award-winning costume designer. Kanani and 'Ofaloto Kumā took over the studio after the pair decided to retire in 2024. Following retirement, Aunty Kathy's costumes continues to grace many stages and dancers, and Uncle Roy remains part of the band, and is best known as our community's leading emcee.

WHat to expect

Our directors, Kanani and Ofa, divide their time between our Fresno studio and our studio here in Orange County. We’re incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated group of teachers who lead our weekly classes with passion and care. Kanani visits classes at least once a month to work directly with students.

Participation in recitals, public shows, and competitions is not mandatory for our advanced dancers, though we highly encourage it. These experiences allow our dancers to share their growth and embrace the beauty of performing beyond the studio.

Fale Polynesia is a small, family-owned business built on a deep passion and commitment to preserving our Polynesian

heritage. We ask that all students and their families show respect as they learn about a culture that may or may not be their own. Please remain open-minded and open-hearted as you face new challenges—whether preparing for a show or training in class. Trust us as we will guide you through every experience at Fale.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly. Our contact information can be found at the top of this page
